Foundation Piecing with Maryann Paterson - Retreat 2019
Our annual retreat will take place this year at the Gordonton Hall and Hazel will be catering. So you can not only expect good company but also yummy home cooked food.
Maryann Paterson will teach foundation piecing. You can choose to make the “Bali Bed Runner” or the “Flowers for My Wedding Ring Quilt” - see image below main image. The availability for the latter is limited. So, let us know as soon as you can if you’d like to make the quilt. Maryann will only be teaching the “wedding ring” technique at the retreat, not the appliqué on the quilt. At the end of the weekend, you can expect to be well on your way to finishing the bed runner top or have the “wedding ring” part of the quilt made.
Here is what Maryann has to say:
“Have you ever wanted to make a wedding ring bed runner/quilt and always thought it was in the too hard basket? Well, I can certainly promise you that it’s not really all that hard. Of course, there are tips and tricks that will make things easier for you and these are what you will learn at the retreat. A little bit about your tutor, my name is Maryann Paterson and I have been quilting in excess of 40 years. I enjoy the process and precision of foundation piecing and having reached the status of New Zealand's only Quiltworx Certified Instructor, it gives me great pleasure to pass on my knowledge to students.”
The retreat will take place at the Gordonton Hall on Saturday, 21st September from 9am to 5pm and Sunday, 22nd September from 8.30am to 4.30pm. The cost is NZ$190.00 and includes the tuition fee and catering for both days (morning & afternoon teas, plus lunches). We can cater for gluten-free but ask that you let us know upfront. Accommodation is not included. Maryann will be staying at the Ballinor Motor Inn in Hamilton and would welcome some company.
The cost of the pattern for the "Bali Bed Runner" is NZ$93.50 and for the “Flowers for My Wedding Ring Quilt” is NZ$197.50. Both patterns include the foundation papers needed. Please let us know your choice when you register.
We’ll also offer 2-1/2” Strip packs specifically designed for the Quiltworx Wedding Ring which are highly recommended by Maryann. We’ll be in touch with details and colour choices on those at the end of July.
